TIPS for SAT Examination

I had never been a good test taker. Especially, standardized tests such as the SAT and the other Advanced Placement courses. Therefore at the start of 2018, I had a mini SAT boot camp, which was to go over strategies and great tips to face the exam in confident. These are the two tips that I personally find helpful.

Note *** There are so many more tips online that might be helpful to you

  1. Time Management – Answer easy questions first
In the reading section of the SAT, there are 5 passages that include 10 to 11 questions and a total time of 65 minutes. Which break down to about 13 minutes per passage. Which means you have about a little than a minute to answer the question. Therefore, when facing questions that you are not comfortable at answering skip to the easier ones first.

*** Don’t forget to mark it down in your answer sheet so that you won’t forget to come back or messed up circling the wrong questions

  2. Always begin with the easier passage

There are three main passages in the SAT. There are science, US literature, and history and literature. While practicing for the exam, notice the passages that you managed to score a higher score on. Then on the exam, choose to do those passages first before jumping into the old confusing literature passage.

Changing the Face of Medicine

A few weeks ago, in physic class, we had a small assignment that required a research paper written about Women participation in STEM. When talking about famous people that have changed the world throughout science, technology, engineering, and math women are not often brought up into the conversations, even though there are a tremendous amount of women that changed the world throughout the aspect of STEM.

This is the research paper that I have written about a woman that change the face of medicine.

“Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end. ” Looking through the life of a woman named Elizabeth Blackwell, inspired a tremendous amount of people, especially women in accomplishing their field in a medical study.

Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell was born on February  3, 1821, in Bristol, England. She was raised in a household that strongly believes in Education. Blackwell’s family moved to the United State in 1832, both for financial issues and to join the anti-slavery movement. Six years later after having been moved to America, unfortunately, her father passed away. Even Though her father passed away, her mother and two older sisters worked as an educator. In addition, Elizabeth Blackwell also gets her first job as a teacher in the US. As a group of educated people, the Blackwell’s family campaigned for women’s rights and supported the anti-slavery movement.

Further on, Elizabeth Blackwell became the first woman that earn the first M.D degree from the New York’s Geneva Medical College, in 1849. After being the first woman who earned the first M.D degree, Elizabeth Blackwell has changed the face of medicine. She encouraged many more women to get in medical school. With the help of her sister and another doctor, Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell has established the New York Infirmary for Women and Children at 64 Bleecker Street in 1857. This institution and its medical college for women (opened 1867) provided training and experience for women doctors and medical care for the poor. Elizabeth Blackwell was also an author of many books related to science.

With a lot of accomplishment, at the same time, there were also challenges of her way to the success. At the time, when she was finding universities, most of the universities and classes were men and sometimes forbidden for women to study. She applied to the New York’s Geneva Medical College and the man students in the class needed to vote for her to get accepted to the school. The man students took it as a joke and voted yes. As a woman, she also gets a lot of discriminations, which sometimes discourages her from the studying. Moreover, while doing a procedure on an infant she contracted a disease that caused one of her eyes to go blind. With one blind eye, she could not pursue her dream of becoming a surgeon.

Currently, women are not the spotlight of the STEM field. It is important to spotlight their accomplishment since it encouraged many other females to participate in the STEM field. Representing the male students as personally believe that there should be an equality between men and women.

Changing Cambodia 2015-2016

In the world, life is not constant the only thing that it constant is change. Changes are always happen in our life. It doesn’t care that you are a poor person or a rich person, smart or stupid, beautiful or ugly, they always find you and make things different. There are two types of changes. Change can be good or it can be bad, depend on what kind of change would you want to change. For me, becoming one of the Liger’s students was the biggest change that I made so far in my life. When I study at Liger I have a lot of opportunities to change my life and my country.

It is the fourth year at Liger. I have involved in a project called Google Science Fair. It’s a competition that have thousands of young people from different country and have the same passion about science. We were trying to use our science knowledge to create positive changes in our community and make the difference it the world. My project was about using the plastic bottles and plastic bags in a different way. By using plastic bottles and plastic bags in the right way is to use plastic bags to put in the plastic bottles. After we filled the bottle with plastic, the bottles are strong enough to use to build bench, small road, etc. So when we collect the plastic bags and plastic bottles. it will help to clean our environment, community, and our world.  We choose to make this project because we thought that plastic is one of the biggest problem in the world. I have this opportunity and I also want to share it to young Cambodian to have the same opportunity.

The first exploration of the year was learning about Phnong indigenous minority. In this project we thought that Phnong is part of Cambodian and not a lot of people know about them and their culture. Our team decided to create a book that include tons of information about Phnong people. To research for the information out team went to the Phnong’s community and learned about them to create our book. We spent five days with the Phnong and we got lots of information that we can use it to write our book. In the book my jobs were writing and editing with my others three teammates. It the conclusion we raised three main problems that we don’t really have the best answers or solutions to. But we could only share share our idea at the Sharation. But for me I really encourage the government to help to make the positive changes. We hope people are buying more book, so we can spread our words.

This year we have the opportunity to create our own exploration with a group of people between two-six people. I was participated in Khmer Interior Design(KID) exploration. Our goal in this exploration was to designed one of the apartment in Liger school and we noticed that in Cambodia there wasn’t a lot of interior designers. I have learned that every things that appear for you to see, they have their purpose and explanation. In the exploration I have designed the kitchen and living room with my partner Thiny.

The fourth year was a fabulous year because the secretary of state could learn and know bout our school. Liger was honored to invite the secretary of state and some important people from different government schools. Every students were presenting about something about why Liger is a unique school. I was sharing one of Liger curriculum(STEAM). I think that I had give the leaders of education something that they could change in the government school.

Next year we will be Liger’s senior students, so we will have our own house ans starting to cook the food for ourselves. I was working on an exploration called Liger Senior Cook Book. And our goals were finding recipes, writing method and published a book, so people that don’t know how to cook could learn from our book. We were divided in three teams. We have created change by making the book so people could learn from it.

All these exploratioons have help me to make changes in my community and my country.

Khmer Class – Script

In Khmer class this year, we are learning about how to write script. The script that we write should only take three to four minutes length. The script that we write can be about fact and comedy. We also can mix the script. We can make it contains a lot of facts and also funny. Our team work for two hours researched about the topic and writing the script. This is our product.

Genocide

Genocide is the action of killing people in the large group, usually by the ethics or their nation. Learning about this make me felt really bad, and I never thought that this things have ever happen in our planet. My country(Cambodia), also faced this problem. On 1975-1979, it was the Khmer Rouge time. The Khmer Rouge think of people like element. They said that, if you hurt your legs they would cut your legs out. The Khmer Rouge have an idea that every should be the same. Many of the old Cambodian have gone through this war. My grandfather and my aunt unluckily didn’t make it.

Zaman School Stem Festival

Some Liger students get invited by the government to join the Stem Festival. I and my friend Vuthy was presenting about lego robot. There were a lot of booths and many interesting topics going on. After presenting for one hour, we went to others booths to see new science projects. Most of the presenters were our age and from Zaman school. We also met a special guy, he’s the American ambassador. It was great to present our project to him and have a nice chat.

Liger Olympics

In Liger we have a time at the end of the school year to play a game called Olympic. In Liger Olympic games are parkour, dancing, solving challenges, sports, etc. We also have trophies for the winning team. There are four trophies, floor hockey, capture the flag, dance off, and overall. This year my team won two trophies, floor hockey and dance off. I think it was really fun and the last time that we do it only for our generation. Next year the new generation will come so it is no longer only us. We will have more students than staff.

Trip to Kept

On March 31 to April 3, 2016 all Liger students and all of out staff were having a trip to Kept to celebrate our fourth year at Liger school. We arrived our destination at about 4:00 pm. The place that we slept in called Jasmin Valley. It is surrounded by green forests. The second day of the trip was pretty fun. What we did for the second day were practicing about trust each other, learned how to use GPS, learned how to take a picture, and learn how to describe the word using the environment, because in the afternoon we need to go find treasure and captured photos in the forests. On our way we found all the treasures but I made a big mistake. I left my team behind. On that day I felt really bad to what I have done. On the third day we went to Rabbit Island to have a relaxing time. When I just got there I played a little bit of frisbee and just straight away into the sea. At night every one meet together including staffs and students to look back to our first year that we met. It was really fun to look back to your old pictures. After the meeting we danced until 9 pm.

Floor Hockey

We never know what is floor hockey, until one of our teacher introduced it to us. He was explaining us about the rules how we play and some techniques. I think I can at another sport in my Favorite Sport List. We really enjoy the new sport that our teacher introduced us to.

I am looking at the goal, and aiming for the target.

Football with ISF

On the May 21, 2016 before my I turn 14, the Liger boys and girls team were playing football with ISF second team, and for boys we won them 9-2 and I also scored one goal for Liger team. But the team that we played with was not the best team that they have. For Liger team, we have a lot of people for substitute but their team only a few, so that was one of our advantage. Unexpectedly the girl team have lost them 5-1, but it was a good experience for them too. I think we all played really well DSC_6848and I think we deserved the score that we got.DSC_6962
